The MA Typeface Design is the model for Masters-level education in typeface design. It is founded on the principles of research-informed practice, critical reflection, and engagement with discourse. We see practice and active engagement with ideas about the discipline as central to the student experience. These principles are at the heart of responsible, evidence-based multiscript design.
It is not surprising that many MATD students discover a love for research, and produce significant contributions to knowledge already at Masters level. Many go on to study for PhDs, and develop academic careers.
This page collects the practice project names of Masters students, with links (where possible) to published versions of the typefaces.
Links to specimens will be gradually added, prioritising Distinction-level projects.
There are about 275 graduates over nearly 30 years, so there are bound to be errors – and some data loss.
Graduates are linked to up to date current profiles, where this is known.
