Columba is a slightly condensed multi-script variable font
designed for use in typographically complicated tight-set printing environments like newspapers, dictionaries and bibles. The type family was devised along two axes – weight
(regular to ultra) and optical size
(micro to display) – and covers four scripts – Latin, Greek, Cyrillic & Hebrew
. The project was driven by the challenge of making three design spaces – optical size,
a range of weights
and different scripts
– work together.
Columba won the 2019 Granshan Grand Prize for its Cyrillic and Greek.
